Celine: Out of Ashes

Celine is a transgender woman in Cape Town, South Africa, who has been experiencing homelessness for the past 10 years. I follow Celine with a handheld camera as we visit her home, a tent structure near Observatory train station that she has named ‘Caesar’s Palace’. Celine learns the sudden news of her father’s death, and she requests that the camera stay rolling. Our collaborative 3” film becomes a meditation on loss, grief, and family.
